Car collision, 30 dead

JOHANNESBURG, KOMPAS.com - At least 30 people were killed after a van full of passengers collided with a truck in the middle of South Africa, Saturday (10/12/2011). Time of the accident, a van carrying passengers beyond the provision.

A spokesman for local police, Mmako Sophiring, say, the van is supposed to be only allowed to carry a maximum of 23 people, but when the car accident was carrying 35 passengers. The car allegedly sped out of control now and into the lane in the opposite direction.

Collision with a truck that was speeding in the path is inevitable. Of the 30 deaths, 29 of which passenger van and one other passenger trucks. Both the driver survived.

The accident occurred near the town of Harrismith, about 300 kilometers south of the capital city of Johannesburg. The car was en route from Johannesburg to the city of Umtata, as far as 800 kilometers.

Number of accidents in South Africa generally increased towards the end of the year when many big cities in South Africa to return home to celebrate Christmas and New Year. They often traveled long distances with low-cost van ride.
